There are many certification programs
for “organic growers,” however the stringent
conditions and standards for “certified organic” certification
are very difficult for farmers in impoverished areas to achieve.
And yet, these farmers are growing crops using sustainable
methods just as (if not more) healthy and environmentally
sound as organic.
Their practices include:
• recycling farm animal wastes,
crop residues and composts • decreasing the use of synthetic and toxic chemicals • resisting the use of GM or genetically modified seeds
Green Planet certification
recognizes such growers’ efforts
through their Green Planet Certification and Seal of Sustainability
program, which helps farmers to produce high yields without
damaging the environment and helps market this healthy
produce to an environmentally conscious public.
